Got Questions?
-
When does your season start?
-
Our first meeting/rehearsal is at the beginning of August and our last performance is usually April or May. We take a break over the summer.
-
-
How often is practice?
-
You're provided with a songbook and a rehearsal CD or USB drive of the songs to allow you to practice on your own time, but we always practice together before performing.
-
We usually have 2 dedicated rehearsal days (in addition to the August Retreat), one in early September and one after the holidays, in early January. Both are in Amarillo.

-
How often are performances?
-
You can check out our current performance schedule by clicking here. Each season is about the same.
-
Additionally, we go caroling the first Saturday in December.
-
-
Do I have to drive every time?
-
Most of the ladies carpool, but no hard feelings if you'd rather not.
-
-
Do I have to be a member of a Baptist Church?
-
Our members are from many different Christian denominations, but the choir itself is sponsored by the Baptist General Convention. Any denomination is welcome.
-
-
What do I wear?
- For most performances, we wear our issued cardigan, a black top, black pants (or full length skirt), black shoes with black hose or trouser socks, and a pearl necklace (faux is fine). If you are going to wear earrings, we ask that you wear pearls, or something simple if you don't have any pearls. Oh, and your official SWOT name tag!
- For casual performances, we wear our issued SWOT shirts with pants as chosen by the director and, of course, your SWOT name tag.
- Please refrain from using scented lotions and/or perfume on rehearsal and performance days due to allergies and sensitivities in the choir.
-
How much is this going to cost me?
-
There are annual dues and a one-time cost for your performance cardigan, casual shirt, and name tag. Everything adds up to about $130 for your first year, but financial help is available if you need it, or you can make payments. After you have your cardigan, shirt, and name tag, it's only the annual dues of $45 (which are waived your first year!).
-
We have a Friday night thru Saturday afternoon retreat early in August to switch out songs, go over the new selections, and fellowship. If you can't stay the night on Friday, it's ok! We'll hope to see you Saturday. The cost varies on whether you're staying the night, rooming alone, or sharing a room.

-
Do you sing acapella?
-
Typically, the only instrument accompaniment is a piano. There are a few selections that are acapella.
-
-
I was at one of your church concerts and a love offering was collected, what does that money go to?
-
The money collected during our love offering goes to help offset the cost of our mission trips, there are some examples on the about us page, under "Our History". Activities during these trips are more than a simple choir performance.
